UPDATE ON ROBOCLOUD TROUBLES

25. 2. 2015

Hi All,

I wanted to update you on our progress on the troubles we are having on the servers. If you aren't aware of the troubles so far, please read my letter from this morning here[robocraftgame.com].

First, I want to say sorry for all the server issues today. The servers are experiencing huge spikes in calls to its API’s which are overloading them and taking them down. Around every 30-60 minutes the servers overload, then die, then reboot. This has been happening throughout the day. The game allows you to play battles for a while, then you notice you cannot join a battle or you do not get a reward at the end of battle and then you have to wait a while before you can enter battle again.

We strongly suspect that this is the result of a malicious hack (DDOS style, but not DDOS) into the servers designed to overload them and prevent our users from enjoying the game.

Yahoo (our service provider for Robocloud) has added a lot more API servers to try to help with the issue, but adding more servers has not helped at all.

Seb and Brian have been working all day on changes to the client to prevent a malicious attack of this kind being possible but it has required going over all the code and changing hundreds of lines of code changes. They have been heroic in their efforts and we are coming to the end of the changes now, but it is very late, which means we are not going to be able to test it thoroughly (normally our testing takes at least 8 hours) and we are not prepared to release a version that is totally untested (we wouldn’t want to delete your Robots or something bad like that). So, I have decided to make the call to do a full test run through and deployment of the new client on the day after Boxing Day (i.e. the 27th December).

As previously stated, we will of course reimburse all lost Premium to paying users, and add more. We will give everyone some free premium, and a promo code for all that gives something really cool, i.e. not just a badge or 1 days premium.

We are really so very sorry that we couldn’t fix this before Christmas, we love Robocraft, and the community, and it’s certainly put a bit of a dampener on our Christmas.

From us, please have a wonderful Christmas Day and Boxing Day and we’ll see you with an awesome update on the 27th.
